We parked round the back and here we are outside. Behind the window is a plan of the track.

The race director got us all organised and we stood round while the go cart was demonstrated. There were two pedals, one for accelerator and one for brake. You had to climb in carefully so that your foot did not accidentally set it going. There was also the hot engine to avoid. We all had overalls and crash helmets.

Fast corner

The start was on the left straight coming towards the camera. Then round the tight left turn and up the steep hill. You needed some speed and full power to get up. At the top there was a turn to the left and you had to go single file round a further left turn and down into the back straight on the far left side which was fast - but no overtaking allowed. Then round the front, left to right, past the pits on the extreme right side and then the back turn under the bridge to the starting area.

There were some 40 drivers. We all got a practice session to start, followed by five races each. Everyone got points according to position in the races and these were added up and shown on computer screens. Early on we all seemed to be in the top 8 at one time or another but later when other people had their points added it did not look so good.

All the scores were added up and the top 8 went through to the final. None of us quite managed the final. Colin was our best hope. The winner and the two runner ups later had medals and a bottle of champagne.

A good day out.
A good day out.

We all agreed that we had had a really good day. Than you very much Peter. We all had a go at the practice session plus five races. We were all thrilled to bits and went home very happy.
